The VSU – PAC Guide Right Jr. Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS) program is designed to facilitate an interest in science, technology, engineering, agricultural and mathematics (STEAM) fields. The program encourages students in grades 9-12 to attend college and pursue degrees in agriculture, natural resources and related sciences. Our Jr. MANRRS program provides activities to help students discover firsthand how agriculture, engineering and technology relate to the world around them and discover the excitement of academic excellence, leadership, technical development and teamwork.
The program culminates with a trip to the MANRRS National Conference, a college readiness and professional
development event for students in high school and college, which includes educational
training sessions, inspiring speakers and internship and career opportunities.
(Petersburg 4-H / Virginia State University Extension)
Building on 4-H’s long history of developing programs that allow youth to cultivate the skills they need to become strong, confident leaders who are committed to making their community, country and world a better place. Petersburg 4-H, in partnership with the Petersburg (VA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, has created the Guide Right 4-H Club. The Club named after Kappa Alpha Psi’s national service program, Guide Right, will align with its Seven Phases of Kappa League.
Membership
Girls (grades K-12) and boys (grades K-8) are eligible to participate in the program. Boys are required to also be members of the Petersburg (VA) Alumni Chapter’s Kappa League program. Since leadership development activities for Kappa Leaguers become significantly more rigorous and challenging for high schoolers. Therefore, boys in grades 9-12 will not participate in the Guide Right 4-H Club.
(Virginia State University Extension)
A partnership between the Guide Right program administered by the Petersburg (VA) Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and Virginia Cooperative Extension, the Guide Right Healthy Eating Initiative offers parents and caregivers the tools, support and information they need to make healthier choices while instilling healthy eating habits in children that will last a lifetime. Through the Initiative, participants will not only learn about healthy eating but will also be provided information on food culture, agricultural history and the science of food as it relates to a healthy body.
